Commercial reverse osmosis units: Questions
At Roultratec we've distributed over 50,000 residential and commercial reverse osmosis units worldwide. The Titan is one of our most popular units and with its computer aided design and low energy consumption it's easy to see why.
One of the questions we are most often asked about the larger commercial systems is how high the pressure typically is. Typically, they operate at pressures between 100 and 1,000 psig. This varies according to the water that is being treated and the membranes that are being used. Standard equipment comes with indicators, so you'll always know the pressure usage as well as have water quality readings.
What does TDS stand for, is another question we are often asked. TDS stands for Total Dissolved Solids. That tells us what it stands for, but doesn't really cover what it means! If you really want to know if your commercial reverse osmosis units are working optimally, use a TDS meter or tester. It compares the feed water to the treated water. If it indicates that less than 80% of your TDS is being removed, it's time for membrane replacement.
The lower the TDS levels in water, the easier it is for the cell's in your body to get hydrated by your drinking water. If the TDS( a total of all solids including minerals, salts and metals) level is high, then water absorption is inhibited. Add to that the fact that the water is full of possibly harmful contaminants and you can see how being aware of TDS levels can be important.
